31st Grand Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. to Announce National Call to Service |
Baton Rouge, LA (August 1, 2007) - Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated's 31st Grand Polemarch, Dwayne M. Murray, Esq is set to announce a "call to service" for America's youth during his inaugural community reception in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The reception is an essential component in initiating Grand Polemarch Murray's new vision for the fraternity and the community, which is serviced by more than 100,000 members and 650 chapters within the United States and Internationally. To spotlight the "call to service" Grand Polemarch Murray will announce a partnership with Project Jumpstart to provide basic and essential school supplies to 300 at risk youth in the Baton Rouge community. Grand Polemarch Murray, by announcing this initiative, reinforces his view that, "education is one of the fundamental issues facing our community." According to a recent study by the Louisiana Department of Education, Baton Rouge ranks as one of the lowest performing school districts compared to other in-state systems like Lake Charles and Shreveport. In addition, the same report indicated that Baton Rouge's 61% of at-risk students is one of the highest student population levels compared to similar school districts. These are tell-tale signs, which indicate a need for student support and a need for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated and its partner organizations to be actively involved in the achievement of students. The Inaugural events that are set to take place are: Friday, August 3rd, 2007, Inaugural Community Reception (7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.), Camelot Club, Baton Rouge, LA, ; Saturday, August 4, 2007, Back to School Community Event (12 noon ); Dinner, Camelot Club (7:30-9:30); Formal Ball (10:00 pm - 2:00am) Baton Rouge River Center Exhibition Hall. This will provide a unique experience for young people to share their thoughts with one of the most influential African-American community leaders as well as other distinguished guests who will be attending from across the country. U. S. States Senator, the Honorable Mary L. Landrieu and other political advocates for youth, will be in attendance. Senator Landrieu will also be the keynote speaker at the dinner. |
